The short answer
Probably not. Streaming 4K takes around 25Mbps per stream, and almost everything else takes far less. What matters more is how many devices are active at once.
- Video calling: around 2 to 4Mbps.
- HD streaming: around 5Mbps per stream.
- 4K streaming: around 25Mbps per stream.
- Ordinary browsing and email: negligible.
- Add them up for the busiest realistic moment in the house. Most families are well served by far less than they are sold.
- Upload speed matters if you work from home, back up to the cloud, or do a lot of video calls, and it is often the thing that is actually short.
What will ruin it
Advertised speeds are "average" figures measured at peak time for half of customers. What you get depends on the line to your property, and on a copper connection it depends heavily on the distance to the cabinet.
Why it works
Bandwidth is shared, not consumed continuously. The reason a house feels slow is usually one device saturating the connection with a backup or an update, not the headline figure being too low.
