Ring 999 for chest pain, difficulty breathing, signs of stroke, heavy bleeding, a rash that does not fade under a glass, a seizure that will not stop, or anyone who cannot be roused.
Energy and running costs
Figures are worked from the Ofgem energy price cap at the rate and on the date shown on each page. Power ratings are typical for the appliance class, not lifted from a named model. Your own rate is on your bill and your own rating is on the appliance, and those are the only two figures that are true for you. The cap changes every three months, which is why every calculator here lets you type your own numbers in rather than giving you one figure.
Repairs and DIY
Gas work requires Gas Safe registration by law. Most electrical work in a home is notifiable under Part P of the building regulations. Structural work, roof work and anything that might disturb asbestos are not DIY jobs. Where a tip says to call somebody, that is the advice and not a formality.
Household chemicals
Never mix cleaning products. Bleach with an acid releases chlorine gas, and it does so at ordinary domestic concentrations in an unventilated room. Keep products in their original containers, ventilate, and wear gloves. If something is swallowed, do not induce vomiting: ring 111, or 999 if breathing is affected.
