Almost every stain is decided in the first two minutes, before anybody has found a product. What you do in those two minutes matters more than what you buy afterwards, and the commonest mistakes are all things that feel like trying harder: rubbing, scrubbing, and reaching for hot water. Each of those makes the stain permanent.

Blot the wine up with a dry cloth, pour a thick layer of salt over what is left while it is still wet, leave it for several hours, then vacuum when it is bone dry.
Rinse it under cold running water from the back of the fabric, then soak in cold salted water. Never use warm water, at any stage.
Cover it in washing-up liquid, work it in with a finger, leave it fifteen minutes, then wash as hot as the garment allows.
Let it set hard, chip off what lifts away, then lay brown paper over the rest and press with a warm iron until the paper absorbs it.
Dab, do not wipe, with a cloth barely damp with surgical spirit or an alcohol hand gel, with a clean cloth pressed underneath to catch what comes through.
Work neat white vinegar or surgical spirit into the mark before it ever sees water, leave it ten minutes, then wash.
You moved it outwards instead of lifting it out. Work from the edge of the mark inwards and blot rather than wipe, and the ring does not form.
