You are not leaving it on. Nearly every cleaner is designed to sit wet on the surface for several minutes, and that dwell time is doing the work you are trying to do by scrubbing.
- Spray it on and walk away. Oven cleaner, bathroom spray, mould remover and disinfectant all have a stated dwell time, usually between five and fifteen minutes.
- Do not let it dry. A dried product has stopped working and may leave its own residue. Re-spray if it is drying out.
- Then wipe, with very little effort needed.
- Rinse. Residue attracts dirt, so an unrinsed surface gets dirty faster than one that was never cleaned.
Disinfectant contact times are not a suggestion. A surface wiped and immediately dried has not been disinfected, whatever the bottle claims, because the active ingredient needs to stay wet on the surface to kill anything.
Chemical reactions take time. The label time is how long the manufacturer's own testing showed the product needs, and it is the single cheapest improvement most people can make to their cleaning.
